SDGs INFINITY WORLD – Let's Create a sustainable world together!!

This year’s SaSSOH student session aims to raise social consciousness about the sustainable development that greatly impacts global public health.

Nowadays, health and socio-economic problems caused by infectious diseases and hazardous chemicals are continuously increasing.

To solve these critical issues, a One Health approach is necessary. It requires multi-disciplinary collaboration among the fields of medicine, veterinary medicine, and environmental science, and trans-sectoral cooperation with human and animal health sectors, education, research and development institutions, and risk management authorities.

Amidst the current situation of rapidly declining natural resources and increasing human population, sustainable development should be considered as a fundamental solution to ensure a livable future for all. In this light, the United Nations (UN) outlines 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) based on three pillars: Environment, Economy and Society. The pillars uphold the goals with the aim of tackling these interconnected problems in a holistic fashion.

The One Health approach and the SDGs are strongly linked in several respects because good health is invaluable for and depends on the attainment of social justice, economic prosperity and environmental protection.

In this event, participants will have the opportunity to create their own simulated world based on a series of choices linked to One Health and the SDGs. The players will be tasked to complete different levels of missions based on SDGs that will each cost in terms of virtual time and money. Upon completion of the mission, the participants will amass SDGs badges that reflect their simulated world. In another aspect, the amount of virtual time which is saved will mirror the real-world struggle to balance resources for attaining future development.
